So many favourites, it's hard to know where to start:
Firstly, there was Patricia. She was, in so many ways, the central core of the storylines, with connections to the Palmers, the Hamiltons, the Morrells, the Carlisles and, of course, our ever- lovable Charlie (Did anyone else know that she had a one-liner in an early Doctor Who, by the way?) I liked both the actresses who portrayed Pat, but Rowena was my out-and-out favourite.
Then there was Fiona - good, old reliable Fiona Thompson. I felt she, too, was a central link to all the storylines and characters and, unlike Patricia, was liked by mostly everyone (even Pat the Rat had a grudging respect for her, I feel). I agree with what allenmx said in the above post about Pat McDonald's emotional acting - it was superb. She could burst into tears at the drop of a hat and usually did! ;D
One guest character that springs to mind, and an all-time fave of mine, was the villainous Roger Carlyle. The man was pure malice and spite and was brilliantly played by Les Dayman. His interplay with firstly Rowena and later Belinda Giblin were truly astounding and made great television. His scenes with his son, Luke and, of course, Katie O'Brien, were also vintage Roger.
Anyway, that's a few of my faves, although I've got to admit I pretty much have a soft spot for all the great characters that turned up over the programmes run.

Thanks, lillyivimia. I'm going to be an anorak now because I'm a massive Doctor Who fan! Sarah was a UNIT radio operator in the story "Day Of The Daleks" and was credited as Gypsy Kemp! ;D Of course, she's not the only connection between S&D and Who. Ilona Rodgers (Margaret) was in the 1964 story "The Sensorites", and David Nettheim (Scott Thompson) was in the 1967 story "The Enemy Of The World"! There may be even more.

I believe those are the only three performers who have appeared in in both "Doctor Who" and "Sons and Daughters". I have tried to think of other possibilities - Australian actors who worked in the UK at times, or British performers who also worked Down Under - as there are other instances of links between Australian and UK programmes that I've watched. Julieanne White, who played a nurse in "The Young Doctors", later played a solicitor in "Brookside", for example! But I haven't found any. I thought Kevin Manser (a Dalek Operator) might have been one - but, although he definitely appeared in "Prisoner Cell Block H" and "Number 96", I don't think he was ever in "Sons and Daughters". I'm not sure if it has been mentioned before, but among Sarah Kemp's other work in the UK, again credited as Gypsy/Gypsie Kemp, was an episode of The Benny Hill Show !

Within minutes of posting the above, I suddenly thought of someone else who has done the double: Peter Dahlsen played Bill Ashley in "Sons and Daughters", only a few years after appearing in the "Doctor Who" story "Time-Flight".
The gap between those roles is considerably less than the other three that Chris mentioned!

Okay, people, I'm a big fan of Doctor Who from wa-aaaay back and I've also been trying to link some of these actors. I know John Lee was in Doctor Who and Prisoner, but I don't know if he ever appeared in Sons and Daughters. Any ideas? ;D

I have to add Susan (mark II) to my favourites *Sobs* When Susan comes back to help Alison in the last couple of episodes. Theres a tear in my eye in that phone box scene where Alison picks up the phone ( to Susan - but we dont know that yet) and practically cries..."its because of Wayne"
Oh I blub like a big girls blouse :-p

It's not Sons and Daughters, but the guy who played the wackjob Reverend Newton in Home and Away in 1989 was in the Tom Baker story "The Ark in Space". I agree with the person on the first page talking about how characters in Oz soaps got blandised after the 80s. The 80s H$A and Neighbours were so much better than the dullards who had taken over within two or three years in the 90s. Fave characters... So many, really, weren't there? Pat, Fiona, Barbara (she was axed? WTF?!) Gordon. I don't think I saw much of Angela back in the 80s but I really like her now. Leigh Palmer was SPECTACULAR. And Wayne, of course. As a child, I actually wanted to BE Wayne when I grew up. Hmm, that's a bit worrying, actually! lol!

Hi, I love loads of them but I think, on reflection, that Fiona's son, played by Andrew Clarke, is the all-time spunkiest. Pat the rat and Fiona for great characters in the show tho...

It will always be Wayne. My childhood hero! Patricia was fantastic of course but Wayne is there for the duration and Ian Rawlings was always utterly compelling to watch. Even though I didn't really like them going a bit too OTT and making him a bit TOO evil at times in 87 - as opposed to just rather screwed-up - he was still the best one in it by miles and along with Susan pretty much carried the show the last two years. Also a big fan of Leigh. Barbara. Susan2. Gordon too, actually, and I was very annoyed by how little he had to do in 86/87. Axing Barbara and removing him from his role in the company and then shoving him with Beryl was just stupid, stupid, stupid! Charlie was a hoot, of course.
