Mine would have to be.... 'PAT THE RAT' with both actresses doing a mighty fine version.... Rowena Wallace and Belinda Giblin. Love the nasty one-liners! and I always had a soft spot for the funny Janice! Rima did such a fabulous job with the dorky, uptight yet humous Janice. Rima is nothing like the character! Great actress. Cheers, O

There's so many to choose from!!!! I have to say Belinda played a fab part in taking over Rowenas role. I didn't fully appreciate what a great job she did first time round (i was still at school) but having watched it all again (i'm now 34!!!!) I realise that she must have had a tough job taking over a role played by rowena.
Now going back to my school days I have to say that my fave character was Kevin Palmer (Stephen Comey). I was so in lurrrrrrrve with him!!! ha ha ha

WAYNE. No contest! But I also loved Patricia/Alison and had a soft spot for many of the other characters including Andy and Charlie. I liked Leigh Palmer a lot too and was very disappointed when she was written out.

So many to choose from...... Barbara is deffo one of my faves, I liked it she was the 'nice' b***h and took no crap from Patricia or Wayne and those facial expressions when Charlie was on the phone or at the door! lol, then again I like Cornelia Frances in all the roles I have seen her play. Patricia and Alison both come close to the top of my faves list too and I always had a bit of a soft spot for poor Beryl, her end freeze frames always seemed to have her crying or looking shocked! Theres just so many I liked Wayne,Susan( of course ),Leigh,Ginny and Glenn were faves too. Of course im sure we all have some characters we didnt like too!

Fav characters... oh that show is sorely missed. Haven't seen it since the first time round. Was in Devon during the re-run and Ch 5 didn't reach there (grrr).
But the show comes alive again on these boards and through Chris's magnificent storyboard stills (heaven). Patricia Wallace was mesmerising on screen with amazing diction. An Aus. soap site outlines an early series she was in playing the opposite of sophisticated Patricia. The series was about marine biologists? so the cast was falfoat a great deal. She tells of the cast exploits (and anti-management stand-offs) and seemed a real tomboy at that time. Charlie was a marvellous over the top comic foyle and Pat MacDonald was a terrific passionate grande dame in Fiona. David Palmer was always impressive in that laid back, nothing rocks my boat, style. Ahhhh.......fond memories

Do we know which characters left of there own accord from the show. There were so many exits over the years. I wonder which ones were gutted to be told they were been axed. I know Barbra and Irene were axed.

Wonder why Barbara was axed? She was such a strong character. The actors cast in soaps in the UK and Australia seemed to have very individual personalities at one time. At some point in the late '80's to early '90's, the TV companies seemed to draw back from the strong characters of their stars. Suddenly a whole raft of fairly bland actors would appear who were fairly interchangeable. Not much of an impression was laid when one left and a new face appeared. Perhaps contractually, they were more manageable for the TV companies.
Whether those big personailites made too many demands or not, their passing made a huge dent in TV shows generally. When the casting of shows gave in to timidity, the shows lost much of their creative casting and strong characters. Reckon most soaps will always be remembered as having their high points pre the '90's, whether still being filmed or not. With satellite channels their will always be a following and interest in the BIG shows like S&D, Prisoner CB, and early EEnders etc. We appreciate actors giving their all to a character. The appeal of these shows gets stronger and stronger...
