www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/790842Wow! If we had a similar release for Sons And Daughters it would be even bigger (as S&D is 972 eps instead of 692 eps) -- but the price! My god!

www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/790842Wow! If we had a similar release for Sons And Daughters it would be even bigger (as S&D is 972 eps instead of 692 eps) -- but the price! My god! As each "Sons and Daughters" episode was about half the length of each "Prisoner" episode, it would need fewer DVDs for a full release - maybe about 110, compared with the 179 in this apparent box-set. That particular retailer, which I've not used, is not supplying it to the UK anyway. Like someone on another thread, I've already bought the first four 16-episode releases, so I'd probably better continue on the "slow path" - as Madame de Pompadour might say!! Regarding the price, the currency converter on their site says that would be about £584 (excluding presumably high shipping costs and maybe import taxes) - but all of the individual sets (assuming they are eventually released) would cost about £670 in total. It doesn't look at all as if there would be much of a saving buying the box set - which would have been my only reason for going down this route.

From what I remember, the DVD companies are not selling the boxset abroad as its too expensive to ship.
The thing is once Ive got through them the "slow way" what on earth am I going to do with them? I can't imagine watching the entire series through from the beginning every time so half of them are going to sit on my shelf and never see the light of day after Ive watched them once. Lets face it (just like SAD) although we remember it with affection there were some dire episodes

...... half of them are going to sit on my shelf and never see the light of day after Ive watched them once. I think that's probably the case for most DVDs in most collections. Certainly it is so for me - partly as I am continuing to buy so many new ones, once the price is right. I just ordered the full 74-episode set of "On The Buses" from Amazon - irresistible at £17.99: www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000I8OP46/findhotelinth-21I tend to view new purchases as soon as possible after they arrive (partly in case there's anything wrong with them!) - and so normally only re-watch some of them when there's nothing new to get through first. It's just nice to know they're there, should the need arise! If only, though, years ago, some marketing man hadn't decided that DVDs really needed to be sold in cases at least a third larger than necessary!!!!

Yes that can be annoying.
I was pleasantly surprised when after buying 2 Prisoner boxets (Each box had three dvd cases containg one DVD each.) the third one was a single DVD case containing 3 DVDS. Like the SAD one. Makes much more sense. A third the size so cheaper to ship ( and presumably less to actually make)

BTW - you never responded to my post asking about when the new Hotel Inspector shows are on Five

I received the next two volumes (episodes 65-96) recently, and have been watching them as time permits since then.
I've been reminded of my one major reservation about the realism of the series - the number of times the inmates heard detailed, important information about the misfortunes of their friends, offspring and prison staff from news bulletins on the radio!!!
It's perhaps a slight disappointment that the covers of neither of these volumes (especially the first) have Sigrid Thornton as Roslyn as the main picture - as she was central to the main storylines of this period (and very attractive!! )
I also appreciated my first opportunity to hear both of the extended, alternative mixes of the closing theme, which ended some of the episodes in this batch - and was always cut short / spoken over / replaced when these episodes aired on ITV in my region and on channel five!

I've been continung on the "slow path" with the "Prisoner" DVDs since they were originally released individually (although I've also been picking up some of the volumes nearer the end to watch later on, at reasonable prices, from a former ebay seller).
However, on one of the most recent volumes, my copy seems to be slightly flawed - I wondered if anyone else here had the same problem, if it's common to all copies?
It is in volume 24, episodes 369-384. In the third episode (379) of the third DVD, there is no sound for about a minute and a half at the end of the first segment - up to, but excluding, the slam of the door accompanying the caption. The scene involves Meg and Laura, and the period affected is 0.05.33 - 0.07.06 of the episode (title 6, chapter 1) . Or, if viewing "play all", 1.34.08 - 1.35.41 in title 10, chapter 13.
Is this the same for others, or have I been unlucky? While it's probably unlikely that I'll want to watch that particular scene with sound very much over the years/decades ahead (and I can always track down one of my VHS recordings if so!), it's a little irritating!

There's various other faults in the release (see the Fault Reporting thread over at the Prisoner forum on OTI), but if you email erin.gill@shock.com.au, she should send you a replacement.

Eighteen months on - and I finished watching the whole series of "Prisoner" on the 40-volume Australia DVDs quite some time ago, Everyone is probably well aware that the major cuts from this release were to the Edna Pearson episodes - and that most such episodes were not broadcast in their unedited format in the UK (except that Channel Five accidentally showed two unedited episodes, and apparently ITV's Meridian area had previously aired most or all of them?) However, in the UK a Region 0 2-DVD set of episodes 463-470 has now been released - the RRP (ridiculous retail price) is £14.99, but it's currently available from HMV for £7.49: hmv.com/hmvweb/simpleMultiSearch.do?searchUID=9029644653371094443&pGroupID=0&adultFlag=false&primaryID=0&simpleSearchString=edna+pearsonI don't normally pre-order DVDs - but in this instance I did, and it arrived today. And I can report that, in a "so near but yet so far" kind of way, the first seven episodes do appear to be uncut - but the last one, episode 470, is the 44m35 edited version that previously appeared in the box set. Akin to telling the whole joke but missing the punchline, this is the one scene that is still missing from that episode (someone found it in a Swedish broadcast in which it remained intact): www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmLwLRXz1vM&I thought those who have expressed an interest in "Prisoner" here may be keen to hear the extent of completeness of this new release!!
