Hi all, Have recently had a bit of spare time so been watching tapes of Prisoner Cell Block H and Sons and Daughters, and as per Aussie soap was amazed that quite a few of the cast appeared in both, as sometimes really different charcaters, despite these shows being made roughly around the same time.. Actors I spotted in Prisoner are- Rowena 'Patricia' Wallace as a (in Beas words) nutty as a fruitcake inmate called Anne Griffin Leila 'Beryl' Hayes as a prostitute inmate called Jeannie Carol 'Doris' Skinner as killer inmate Nola Mckenzie Mary 'Dee' Ward as Elderly inmate Mum Brookes Theres loads more these are just a few of the top of my head. I always find it intersting to see my fave actors playing totally pity different roles, especially in Prisoner!

I have never heard of Prisoner (I live in Holland), but did Mary Ward play a character called Dee Morrell? The same name as in SaD? That's funny!

Sorry Robin, my mistake.Put down her Sons and Daughters characters name rather than her Prisoner one. Corrected it now What a shame you have never seen Prisoner Cell Block H. ITs another great Aussie drama/soap from the 80s.

That's ok, col! I wish Prisoner was shown here in Holland. Everyone here who loves SaD seems also thrilled about that show. We HAD a series called 'Vrouwenvleugel' (translated in English: vrouwen = women, and vleugel = wing, so the wing from the prison where the women lived) for three seasons in the 90's that told the story of all kinds of women in prison. Maybe they took the idea away from Prisoner. The first season had one of the prisoners being killed (she fell out of the window in her cell, its bars and a part of the wall had come with it) because she was given dry sheets instead of wet sheets (they don't tear that easy). It seemed that she was pregnant by one of the guards, but the question was: who was the father? There was also a lesbian prisoner, a very sweet and funny character (rough from the outside) who had run over her girlfriend's husband, because he beat her up, and then the girlfriend told her some episodes later that she would marry another guy! That was so sad for the prisoner. Another prisoner was an old lady, whose husband was killed by her, although she kept saying that he slipped and fell before the train himself. Anything sounds familiar?

In my region we had Young Doctors Mon and Tue, and Sons and Daughters Wed, Thur, and Fri. Didn't get into the show until near the end of it's run when Pamela appeared, so didn't know who Patricia was. I remember coming home from school waiting too watch Childrens ITV to start and just seeing the sepia and theme tune - it was the that tune that go me to start watching it. The theme tune first sold the show to me, then I was fascinated about the mystery around Alision and Pamela.

I can imagine, simon! It was a very exciting time when Rowena returned to the show.
Me and my parents watched the show when it ran on the Belgian TV network BRT2 during the eighties (I live in The Netherlands myself) and because it was shown in another country, there was hardly any news about the show in the Dutch magazines. That means that there weren't any spoilers like there were from the cliffhanger episodes from Dallas and Dynasty. You know, pictures and all, so you knew what was coming. The only thing we had was a little phrase in the TV guide (there was a small part for Belgian programs), like: Beryl gets a shock. Well, you understand, that can mean anything! Sometimes, you had to read that literally. 'Fiona gets a shock' was also said when she got a shock from that vacuum cleaner. But of course you didn't know that before you had seen the actual episode! It was always great fun, those lines! Made it extra exciting.
Therefor, can you imagine how we reacted when we saw 'Patricia' again? (We have seen the show from the beginning, so we did knew about Patricia) We hadn't heard or read anything about it, so it was quite a shock! For me, it made SaD the most exciting show on TV.

But mainly it shown Wed to Fri for most of it's run, with ACP on Mon and Tues. In the last year they went back to 5 a week and then they replaced it with daily halves of ACP after it ended on doomsday - Friday 10 March 1989
