I noticed in another thread some people saying they found Karen Fox/Hamilton interesting to watch and I just wondered why?
I agree that she was, and is still one of my favourite characters, but when myself and some friends used to watch the C5 repeats I was the only one that thought this.
Admittedly, she had a very weak side, which of course was her love for Wayne, however I felt she was more than capable of standing up to people in the way that Patricia did and Caroline (my favourite character) never quite seemed to manage.
I have to admit, not having watched the series before and not looking at spoilers I was surprised she was killed off. I suppose it was some sort of comeuppance, however for me I wanted Karen to get away with it. I thought Lyndel Rowe was a great actress.
How about everyone else?
Alex :-)

It took a while to get used to Karen because at that time Pat the Rat ruled the roost but it was good for Patricia to have a rival in bitcheness for a while. ;D

I thought she was good. She had - sorry - a much better defined character than Caroline, and lyndel rowe played her well. I guess she wasn't considered a success but she seemd to me to make much more impact than for example margaret dunne, and all those nice but slightly dull 'good women' characters that started to clutter up the series! Which was an achievement consiodering she didn't really have any strong family connection with any of the core characters...

I was quite shocked when she was so suddenly killed off. And by dull as ditchwater Liz of all people!

I was quite shocked when she was so suddenly killed off. And by dull as ditchwater Liz of all people! I was surprised too, I liked the character. It was as though she tried to hard to be a bitch. Don't think it come as natural as it did with Alison and Pamela. I'm not saying that the actors' who played these two were bitches though. Think Belinda and Rowena are quite nice people. But it just seemed to come natural too them two. I wonder if the actress who played Karen left of her own accord or was she told to go by the writers? It did seem quite abrupt the way she was thrown over that bridge, it came as a surprise too me, I just didn't expect it.

I remember reading somewhere that Lyndel Rowe only planned to do the show for a relatively short period, to save up some money for a back operation.

I remember reading somewhere that Lyndel Rowe only planned to do the show for a relatively short period, to save up some money for a back operation. That's quite true. I posted this (possibly here or perhaps elsewhere) as I met her a few years ago and asked about her time in the show. She was very very nice - not at all like Karen. Personally I loved the character and thought it was a shame she didn't last longer.

Yes, I think I may have read it on Graham's newslist - when that was still running. Did you used to contribute to that, James?

Fantastic bitch! Yeah, shame she was killed off. Ditto for Roger Carlisle. I was very displeased with the latter in particular - we're shaping up for an epic final showdown between him and Alison and he gets killed off by some random guest character? BOO!
