It didn't take me long to get used to Alison as being a completely different chracter to Patricia. I think had the writers decided that Alison should be Patricia once everyone knew this would have been a big mistake. I totally agree.I think this was one of those situations that could haev went two ways,Either people wouldnt accept it and switch off in droves, or as luckily happend people took to Alison. A lot of it is down to the writers and Belinda Giblin making Alison her own character rather than acting just like Rowena Walllace did in the role. To be honest after a while I sort of switched off to the fact that Alison was really Patricia, because she wasnt liek Rowena, in a god way though! Mind when Rowena came back I did start to think Oh please a little! lol

hi dee u had a good week off? It's gone really quick for you, (it always does) never mind. 2mw, I'm going to buy the new Kylie Showgirll Cd. Hi Simon Had a fab week off. I painted the spare room and it looks fab. I'm starting on my bedroom this weekend. Kylie was ab fab, was suppose to go Monday 15th but that was rescheduled to tonight but couldn't go coz the last train home is 22.20 so I managed to get tickets for Thursday 18th and we were on the lower tier, Row F at the side of the catwalk. Had the best view ever. Kylie was so close. She certainly was a Showgirl. Due to the really bad weather on Thursday (2 of our trains to Manchester were cancelled and we were beginning to think we were going to miss the concert) Kylie started the show late to give people more time to get to the arena. Because of this the show finished at 23.15 so guess what happened??? We missed the train home!!! So we were homeless in the centre of Manchester, we finally found a hotel for the night but was up at 6am coz my friend had to work!! Was totally shattered when I got home but it was a good night. My brother in law is probably shaking in his boots now coz we are going to see the scissor sisters in July and I said to him I hope we get the last train home otherwise we will be spendin the night in a hotel....lol ;D ;D

Alison keeping the name Alison made perfect since to me. You can well imagine that Patricia wanted to create a whole new identity for herself and put all her bad years behind her.
If I were in Alison's shoes, I would do the exact same. New identity, new name....period.

I kind of thought Alison was nicer in a way than Pat. She could be ruthless, but she didn't have that vindictive, almost slightly unstable/psychopathic quality Patricia could have.

In so many ways 'Patricia' and 'Alison' were different characters. Yes, the fact she was Patricia was relevant to many of the plots (the murder charge, the fact she was Mary's mother, her 'relationship' with David and Charlie, for example) but there were so many things we saw Alison do that we couldn't have imagined the old Pat doing (eg. tarting herself up as 'Wayne's girlfriend', having a one-night stand with Doug). I agree, but think it worked in Alison's favour. It was also surprising how quickly the revelation she was Patricia was brushed over. Characters like Andy, and even Gordon and Wayne didn't seem particularly phased by the revelation. Alison telling Fiona and Fiona's reaction was one of the few 'believable' moments in this storyline. This, in general, was the main problem with S&D as a whole. You had some of the most ambitious storylines ever attempted in a soap, even by today's standards, but there were never any consequences. I wonder if the makers were trying to downplay the whole plastic surgery story line; there were lots of references to Alison looking familiar or reminding characters of someone, so perhaps the general gist was that she wasn't as dissimilar as she appeared. In creative terms Alison was physically just a slightly different version of Patricia in the same way that the second Susan was obviously the first Susan to the characters. But with that in mind there could have been more of a reaction from the rest of the characters. They certainly didn't milk the ambitiousness of the storytelling enough. The neurotic, vulnerable side of 'Patricia' was never really shown in the later storylines - Alison, in my humble opinion, lacked any real depth. You never really quite lost sympathy with Rowena's Patricia, no matter how malicious she was, whereas when Alison was shown being ghastly and malicious, there wasn't enough empahasis on the reasons why she was behaving this way. With Patricia, the viewer could usually 'justify' or explain even her most vile and malicious behaviour. I can see this argument but I don't quite subscribe to it. I remember Patricia vaguely first time around but it's Alison's era I followed as a fan. I remember wondering for a long time what the early years must have been like; because I found Alison to be a character filled with regrets and a genuine desire to reform but also a formative schemer who could put JR to shame. Her friendship with Glen had little edge after their first storyline and he brought out the best in the character. In the end it was quite disappointing to see the early years and to see a petty mad schemer who just wanted her man and her money - it was only towards the end that Patricia came into her own taking on Karen Fox and the Hamiltons. Alison rose above that, she was never going to be a victim to her men, even David was brushed off, and to be honest I doubt very much that she would have stayed with him either! She knew what she wanted and she got it, although in the end her arrogance over Wayne made for a fitting comeuppance. I kind of thought Alison was nicer in a way than Pat. She could be ruthless, but she didn't have that vindictive, almost slightly unstable/psychopathic quality Patricia could have. Exactly. I think Alison was more sociopathic than psychotic which was more Patricia's trademark.

Yeah... this wasn't a great idea long-term. The initial storyline was great but once it was all out in the open Alison just seemed like a completely different character. I don't mind the actress, but she had none of the real venom or borderline psychopathy that Rowena Wallace brought to the role, though to be fair, they didn't write her like that either anymore for some reason!
