I just wondered how do fans of the show view it. Last year I finally wrapped up my first marathon viewing of the show in over twenty years. However due to the nature of availability of the episodes it was out of sync slightly. Now the opportunity has arisen for me to view again. I am currently up to Episode 13.
How do other fans view the show? Do you watch an episode a week in perpetuity for instance? Or hypnotic marathon sessions then leave it for years and years? Do only certain story lines appeal; i.e does it become unviewable when a favourite character is no longer in it?
Be interesting to know.

I haven't watched any SAD for years! I've still got tons of DVDs that I recorded off Channel Five (UK), but I haven't touched them for ages. I'm a huge Dr Who fan, so I've been watching all my DVDs of this for the last year or so. I know that if I was to start watching my SAD ones, I'd probably watch them all in record time!

Two things we have in common. Ironically my Doctor Who viewing has slipped a lot lately. Maybe one cannot have Doctor Who and Sons and Daughters at the same time!

I haven't watched Sons and Daughters since it aired in the 80's. Only the episodes on the two DVD sets from time to time. Too bad the whole show isn't available.

I have been watching the episodes from series 3 from both DVD's, obviously this skips a lot of episodes!!, couple of things i have noticed this time around IMO, Irene seems to have a slight personality change between her two stints (obviously becoming a GP who ocasionaly does stints in the local A & E , while running a boarding house does that to you), She seems slightly more serious and sensible when she comes back (could be due to Todd dying i suppose), Also IMO i think Belinda Giblin really caries the series for its last 18 months or so, she steals every scene she is in and makes the show watchable for a period IMO it was not at it's best. Although having said that i think the last season is back to form, Having Alison battle it out with Pamela is probably my favourite part of the series,

Well I'm not watching it at present but I watched the whole series again on 7TWO over here in Aus from 2010-2013. I would be interested to do so again in a few years, though whether it'll come back again who knows! My favourite period was mid 83-through 85. 86 and 87 definitely went downhill, though, and Wayne and the Wayne/Susan story was pretty much the only real thing of interest in the last two years and basically carried the show then. That was excellent and never really put a foot wrong... but most of the rest was not so hot. I'll never understood the thought process behind the cast axings at the start of 86 or the dreadfully unconvincing Gordon/Beryl pairing LOL!

In pairing Gordon and Beryl, they matched up probably the two most boring characters in the show's history!

I love Gordon! I don't find him boring at all. I think Brian Blain was great at playing this dignified old-school gentleman. Beryl is less interesting I agree but still a necessary character; you can't have every character be a Wayne or a Patricia. I can't see how either could be considered duller than the likes of Andy, Craig and Debbie, Jenny, at least 3/4 of the O'Briens or May!
