Now Col, you know "very well" that my favourite person in the world is Ms Lehman (don't forget to get her new DVD - literally a 10 minute short film for £20)! LOL ;D ;D ;D Well yeah of course as I said Im as much a fan of hers as you are! Only £20,, dear me Im paying £40 as shes so important..... OK OK, You know before this royalties thing, I actually liked Beryl/Leila (and a lot of S&D fans didnt), theres even a topic on here somewhere where I ask if anyone knows what shes doing now (and Tom Richards replied to me ) but her 'blast' just put me off her. Anyways yeah lets stop going off topic... Abigail yeah, love to see her back, sadly though her and another huge favourite (non S&D) actress of mine, Vivean Gray are apparantly almost recluses now, and never give interviews or venture out from home much, which is sad

Fast forward 20+ years. Fiona Thompson has just died and the first scene takes place at the cemetary. Jill is there with Terry and Fee who is now in her teens and is the mirror image of her mother. Also at the funeral is David Palmer (without Alison who refused to attend), Beryl, Gordon , Robert, John and Angela. Later on that day, the will is read out and to everyones shock Fiona leaves her boarding house to Jill, Terry and Fee. Terry has become a property tycoon and plans to convert the boarding house into luxury apartments. He moves Bunty and Thel into a nursing home and pays their fees. The present day one year later. Kevin Palmer is the first person to move into the newly remodelled luxury apartments with his trophy wife Di Miller. Kevin is now the new district attorney. His son Davey is a detective with the local police force. Whilst Kevin and Di are relaxing in their hot tub celebrating their first night in their new apartment, the smoke alarm goes off. They race outside whilst Kevin calls the fire department. The complex burns to the ground. The police suspect arson. Cue Kevins shocked face freeze framed, and the S&D tune plays

Alison would definetly be back on top and richer than ever! She and David were married and she was friends with Charlie again after Todd "accidentally" died in car accident! Wayne is just released from jail for murdering Susan and Alison exacts her revenge and drives him to suicide to be with Susan but after he's gone it turns out Susan is alive and living with Caroline, Doug and her child who it turned out wasn't down syndromed after all and Caroline had read the wrong file. Susan is in business with Alison and rich after getting hers and Glenns money back from Wayne plus the Hamilton fortune as she is the soul beneficiary of his will.
Gordon and Fiona have died and Beryl has moved away with Robert to be with her family. Pamela returns with Greg after Nick and Sarah get married. Pamela and Alison lock horns and fight constantly as David gets close to Pamela and tries to steal him away from sister dearest.

Charlie was always unlucky in love and I thought she should make up with Alison even though she treated her badly and snapped at her always but as we saw she truly loved her! I was laughing at the episodes today when Charlie thought she'd marry Gordan but he chose Beryl. It would be nice if she met someone nice!

Hang on let me think...how would the intro go? :-)
"And now on UK MadeUpChannel, the feud between the Hamiltons and Palmers reaches a whole new generation. It's been twenty one years since we last saw the likes of Charlie Bartlett and Alison"Im really Patricia but dont tell anyone" Carr..and they've lost none of their sparkle, even if they've shed the shoulder pads. So settle down with a big plateful of pavlova for the return of Sons & Daughters"
I wonder who'd do the theme? It would probably be a rap version these days. yuck

I don't know if anyone here has seen any of Verbotene Liebe (Forbidden Love)- the German version of S&D which has now been running for years? Great theme (in English) and even if you don't speak German you can often make out what is happening. there are some clips on youtube - including a recent storyline with english subtitles added. It's very much in the S&D tradition - glam bitches, rich & poor, big business and incest related stories. What they have done very well is continuing the "forbidden love" with new families - something S&D only had partial success with (Morrells good - O'Brien's bad) and I think had it continued might well have ended up like VL.

Sons and Daughters - 2013!! Sometimes its best to leave things where they are, but then if done right.....who knows. Could it be a worthwhile project if Belinda Giblin refused to take part? Could Rowena's Pamela be a fitting show runner?

Probably do what they did with Crossroads and bring in a whole slew of new characters, making it a shadow of its former self and unrecognisable to fans - with almost no links to the past, it would be like watching a whole new programme.
Or they will just reimagine it and make it different.
As things were, the original Sons And Daughters was almost unrecognisable, if you watched it regularly, but then moved elsewhere where they were years ahead or your ITV region decided to skip a few episodes to catch up with Granarlton (a hybrid of Granada and Carlton).
The same could be said of most long-running soaps that are now finished - show the first episode, followed by the final episode and see how many of the originals - at least, from the first half a dozen episodes - were in it at the end.
In the case of Sons And Daughters, there were only four of the original characters still in it at the end - Gordon, Beryl, Fiona and David - although David had been out of the show for ages - Susan doesn't count, as she was played by a different actress - apparently, Tom Richards wanted to do a film or whatever that never came to fruition.
With most Australian soaps, regular characters often somehow got written out and other characters effectively replaced them - shows like A Country Practice and Prisoner had characters move away or die or whatever - in the case of Prisoner, get released - put on the first and last episodes back to back and show no others - completely unrecognisable!
